Each and every generation of the church has a high calling and special responsibility to lead the next generation into the truth and power of God through the Gospel. Parents especially have the responsibility to love, protect, teach, and guide their children in the Gospel until they can seek, follow, and obey Jesus on their own. This task is made particularly challenging by the brokenness of the world around us. The world lives according to values and goals that do not line up with the way of Jesus, and its siren call to our children is powerful. As the church, we must support and uphold our parents to live out this call to lead our children and teens in following Jesus with consistent boundaries, a faithful memory of God’s activity, and a patient persistence grounded in love.
