At The Heart of It: The Sermon On The Mount
Jesus tells us that the law of God can be summed up with two commandments—love God and love others. The way that leads to love, peace, joy, hope, and purpose is centered on these two pursuits. This seems simple, but it is easier said than done and knowing the specifics of what love looks like from one circumstance to another can still be difficult to grasp. With that in mind, Jesus gives us instructions on living a life centered on loving God and others in what has come to be known as the Sermon on the Mount. In these powerful words of Jesus, we discover the life changing way of following Jesus in every-day life. It often challenges worldly ways and secular worldviews, but it positions us to walk closely with God and to be a blessing to others. It all starts with receiving the love of God and loving God in return. Through the first half of this series, we will explore what it means to truly love the God who loves us first. Through the risk of trusting God fully, pursuing Him with personal devotion, and allowing Him to be the one and only prize of life, we will grow in love of God in ways that will draw us close to Him and will build a solid foundation for life now and in the eternity to come.
